1) What is the meaning of the word Pranayama?
Pranayama is a Sanskrit word that breaks up into 2 or 3 words.
Prana: Life Force ( roughly)
Ayama: to expand the dimensions of prana all over our being.
Yama: Restrain or Control
2) How should we learn?
The best way is with the guidance of a teacher.
3) What is Pranayama in the context of Yoga?
Patanjali referes to the 8 limbs of yoga. Pranayama is one limb. Asana is another limb.
Also known as “breath control,” consists of techniques designed to gain mastery over the respiratory process while recognizing the connection between the breath, the mind, and the emotions. Pretty cool!
4) Why done with empty stomach?
It is hard to take a deep breath with a full stomach. Try it.
As a result it is better to practice in the morning, when the body and mind are empty.
This month, join our wonderful community for December Yoga Challenge, and take advantage of the Lila and Spanda Class Passes, expand the dimensions of Prana all over your being.
We have 2 Workshop Style Offerings, including 3 consecutive Mondays Pranayama on zoom platform.
