Perimenopause- Menopause

In a 2 part series our in person groups, concluded the year with a fresh look pertaining women's health.

We dove into conversations opening space for inquiries about perimenopause and menopause and how yoga does wonders to help us navigate with proper attention by rebranding the old approaches.

We discussed what the symptoms, and why they are potentially ignored, or miss-diagnosed.

We learned and practiced yoga poses, movement that studies have shown a variety of benefits.

Example of highlighted pose: Supta Baddha Konasana

  • Releases chest, abdomen, groins, leg muscles, calms the mind, breathing slows down.
  • It is also great for menstrual cramps, PMS, digestive issues. Improves general circulation- stretches the inner tights, groins, knees.
  • Stimulates abdominal organs, ovaries and prostate glands, bladder and kidneys.
  • Relieves symptoms of stress, mild depression, menstruation and menopause.
  • Preparation for pose with other poses, such as malasana, gomukhasana, padmasana.
    Part 2, we experimented with Ayurvedic general approach to diet, herb supplement, and familiarized ourselves with the Dosha system to understand the symptomatic expression of this transitional phase.
    Key areas to promote balance:
  • Diet and Nutrition. Fresh whole grains, fruits and vegetables preferably organic.
  • Avoid alcohol, green tea, coffee and carbonated beverages.
  • Give preference to juices, soups and stews, foods to level deficiency of iron, vitamin D.
  • Stay grounded and balanced, avoid indulgences such a sugar, precessed foods. Excessive exercise. Focus on mind/body balance.
  • Sleep and rest is important. Favor routine and regularity of schedule.
  • Yoga and pranayama practices.
  • Meditation.
    Looked into different options for teas and why they can be helpful.

Home Remedies

To support digestion: CCF tea (coriander- cumin- fennel)

Lime Ginger Nectar: Grated ginger, lime juice, raw honey 2 ounces shot, take it before meals.

Options for self-care practices that are simple and approachable.

Balancing Oil Treatments:

Abhyanga- warm oil massages

Nasya: oil treatment for nostrils- to help with mental clarity

Discussed options of herbs and supplants.

Herbs :

Ashawaganda, Bhrami, Aloe Vera, Dandelion root, Red clover.
